Welcome to Tripoli & Mantinia, where Arcadia’s plateau meets its vineyards and ancient cities

Tripoli sits on the high central plateau of Arcadia, the regional capital and the gateway to everything around it. To its south lie the ruins of ancient Tegea, once the most powerful city in Arcadia; to its north, the vineyards of Mantinia climb the slopes above 600 metres. Whether you’re basing yourself in Piana, Skopi or Tegea itself, our network of handpicked accommodations puts you at the centre of the plateau, its wine country and its history.

Mantinia Wine Country

The plateau around Tripoli is Moschofilero country. PDO Mantinia, established in 1971, is one of Greece’s oldest protected wine appellations – a cool, high-altitude zone between 600 and 800 metres where the Moschofilero grape ripens slowly into floral, aromatic white wines with low alcohol and bright acidity. The vineyards spread across the villages of Tripoli, Tegea and Mantinia itself, wrapping around the ruins of the ancient city they’re named for.

Ancient Tegea: Archaeological Site & Museum

Ten kilometres south of Tripoli, Tegea was once the most powerful city of ancient Arcadia. Its Temple of Athena Alea was rebuilt in the 4th century BC by Skopas, the same sculptor who later worked on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, and ranked among the great temples of the ancient Greek world. The Archaeological Museum of Tegea, opened in 1909 and one of the oldest in the Peloponnese, holds the finds – among them Skopas’s own head of Telephus – and traces the city’s story from Neolithic settlement to Roman times.

  • Visit the Temple of Athena Alea and the Archaeological Museum of Tegea
  • Taste Moschofilero wines from the vineyards of Mantinia
  • Walk the ruins of ancient Mantineia – its theatre, agora and fortified walls

Taste: TeGaia — Ktima Kyriakouli

In Tegea, TeGaia – Ktima Kyriakouli works the orchards behind the PDO Pilafa apple, Arcadia’s own protected variety, carrying it from the tree to apple chips and the wider Arcadian table. It’s the kind of producer this plateau is built on – small, specific, and tied to one particular piece of ground.

Find your perfect stay above, and discover the plateau where Arcadia’s history and vineyards meet.
