Arcadia Stories, Megalopolis, Taste Arcadia|

On Wednesday, 2 September, twenty bars from across the Peloponnese come together in Megalopoli for the fifth Peloponnese Cocktail Festival, pouring and presenting their cocktails at Anamiktirio, Agiou Athanasiou 72. This year the guest list carries more weight than usual: for the first time, a bar from Athens joins the line-up.

Not just any bar. Line — No.1 in Europe’s 50 Best Bars 2026, Best Bar in Europe, Best Bar in Greece, and No.8 in last year’s global ranking — is coming to pour alongside bartenders from Arcadia, Messinia, Laconia, Argolida and Achaia. Line built its name on fermentation, sustainability, ingredients made in-house, and a close working relationship between kitchen and bar, so its presence here reads less like a celebrity guest shift than an invitation: the region’s own creativity, judged on the same counter as the continent’s best.

The festival has grown into this moment. It started five years ago as an idea that looked a little reckless at the time — get the Peloponnese’s bars behind one long counter and let them tell the region’s story through what ends up in the glass. By its third year, in 2024, it had already pulled in twenty bars. A year later, twenty-two bars and more than forty different cocktails had turned a one-off night into something that connects bartending with gastronomy, local production and the identity of the place itself.

That’s really the point of it, more than the tasting. Greek spirits instead of imported labels, local ingredients instead of a standard syrup kit, techniques borrowed as often from the kitchen as from the bar book — each bar answering the same question in its own way: how much of a place can you fit into one drink? The festival exists to argue that the Peloponnese doesn’t have to watch cocktail culture develop somewhere else. It can help shape it, from here.

It also happens to be happening at home. Megalopoli is where the Arcadia Hospitality Network is based, and five Septembers of the same festival growing a little further each year, in the same town, is the kind of quiet continuity this place runs on.
