Kalogris Organic Winery

LocationKapsia, Mantineia plateau · Arcadia
TypeOrganic family winery · Wine tourism
HostThe Kalogris family: Evangelos, one of the pioneers of organic farming in Greece, with Christina and their daughters.

The place

In 1981 grandfather Kalogris gave his house in Kapsia to his grandson Evangelos, with one wish: that it stay open to people. The stone family home of 1870 was restored and became the Kalogris winery, and since then thousands of visitors from all over the world have walked through its big wooden door.

The family’s vineyards lie a short distance away on the Mantineia plateau, at 650 metres, among the ruins of an ancient city where Moschofilero (locally Fileri) has been grown for centuries. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grow alongside it. The Kalogris family were among the pioneers of organic farming in Greece, with some forty years of organic cultivation behind them, and all four of them work every stage by hand, from pruning to harvest in late September. The result: aromatic white, rosé, dry and semi-sweet wines, certified organic and vegan, alongside traditional petimezi and balsamic-style vinegar made as a family house craft.

At the end of the day we feel as happy as little children about our products, which we consider the most precious in the world.
